Electromagnetic wave is a flux or field generated by an RF source and transferred to the space. This field have two componets called the electric and magnetic field. These two componests are normally phased 90 from each other in a plane wave condition. This wave can be classidfied as infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X rays and ¥ãrays depending upon the wave's length. The speed of the wave is same as an invisible light speed (3 x 10 8 m/x) within the vacuum condition but it is rather slower within the medium. Maxwell decomstrated theoretically at first, the Hertz characterized and measured the electromagnetic wave. Finally, Marconi applied it to the Radio Communication. The flux or energy departing axially or energy departion axially from a conductor is to be called the electric field. The electric field without charge movement is defined as constant electric field. At the same time, the energy that departs concentrically or go off phase from the above vectors is to be called the magnetic field. The electric and magnetic field generated at very low frequency (VLF) induce very low energy into relatively small object when they are irradiated. The electric field can be easily shielded due to its characteristics but magnetic field is difficult for similar reasons. Hence, the magnetic field is more likely to be absorbed by the living tissue and therefore, it may be harmful to human body all depending of the intensity and frequency of such wave or field. The reason 'Why EMF(Electromagnetic Field) is harmful' EMF which can influence the human body is largely classified into ELF(Extremely Low Frequency: 0-1Khz), VLF(Very Low Frequency: 1-500KHz), and microwaves. Magnetic fields and electric fields are measured so that they can be standardized for the harmfulness of ELF and VLF respectively, while the output power per unit area is measured for microwaves. The problem is that ELF and VLF of the current induced by magnetic and electric fields can flow into the human body. As for microwaves, there is the problem that it could result in an increase in temperature of human tissue. Electric fields are formed by a build-up of electric charge and magnetic fields are created by movements of electric charge. When the current flows along the conducting wire, magnetic fields are created around it according to Lorentz's law, and due to these magnetic fields, the induced current flows into the neighboring wire. If magnetic fields exist around the human body, a small amount fo current is not that significant because there is little magnetism in the human body like there is , for example, in air. It is known that this current that is induced by EMF(Electromagnetic fields)does cause harm to the human body, but it is still unknown how it is harmful. However, there are two theories to explain the situation, as follows. One is that resonance can occur when the wavelength of EMF matches that of the movement of the cells, and it can maximize the harmful energy transmittance of EMF which is a measurable phenomenon in the living body. It is a known phenomenon that EMF hinders the movement of Ca through the cell membrane of living organisms. The other theory is that the change in Ca's flow between the cell membranes can decrease the body's ability to fight off cancer. This is caused by the fact that a high voltage can be applied between the cell membranes with low conductivity which interferes with the chemical balance in the cells of the living body which under normal conditions can be induced by even an infinitesimal current in the cell membranes. A lot of reports have been written in order to answer the questions about EMF occurrence in the transmission and distribution of dist distribution of electric power, as well as to answer questions surrounding many home electrical appliances that could be responsible for causing brain cancer, leukemia, and birth defects. Some specialists believe that it is true. According to Dr, Carpenter of New York University, 10-15% of all of cancers in children are attributed to the power supply for in-home use(100v). In addition, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) said that this statistic is "considerable", and also warned that it is essential to avoid exposure to EMF as possible. In 1976, Linda Loma proved that Ca could flow off gradually from the brain cells of chickens even by a weak EMF. The study on the egg-laying of chickens supported by EPA also reported that the deformed egg-laying was prominently increased when the chickens were exposed to the pulse shaped EMF from a computer monitor. Also, according to Dr. Milham's study on death caused by leukemia in Washington State. Which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1982, the death rate increased in 10 out of 11 job groups that were exposed mostly to EMF. Based on the data, there were 438,000 EMF exposure related deaths which occurred between 1950 to 1979. Dr. Savitz also reported an increase in the occurrence rate of all kinds of cancer in children who lived near electric power transmitters. As for Korea, there have been few studies on EMF's influence on the buman body so there are no related research papers. However, according to experts from the communication field, many sterile patients work in microwave communications stations and eye pressure is increased whenever experiments are done on microwave generators. Microwaves contain lots of energy I.e. a few GHz(1GHz=109Hz) of super high frequency and although it's power is weaker than that of X-ray, it does cause harm to the human body; especially to the generative cells and leucocytic cells and it cause changes in brain activity.
