"USING a mobile DOES affect your brain, medics have warned. And that may boost the chances of developing diseases like cancer.

A major scientific study of hundreds of mobile users revealed signals emitted during calls can cause a seven per cent rise in chemical changes in the brain.

This "brain metabolism" occurs in the part closest to the mobile's antenna – usually held very close to the head or even touching the face during calls.

Research has already shown mobiles emit radiation and can heat up brain cells. Some doctors say you should not sleep with one near your head and phone companies recommend wearing headsets.

The latest study, by top US scientist Nora Volkow, may make thousands more use their phones with extra caution. ."
